Havering travelled to Canvey Island with slim hopes of promotion if they won and results went their way. Skipper Lee Rhodes lost the toss yet again and was invited to bat on what looked like a good batting track. Tight bowling and some poor shots had Havering in trouble as they lost wickets at regular intervals and they slipped to 82-9 with only Neil Keylock (25) really troubling the scorers. A stand of 81 between Kevin Stanbridge who had been batting sensibly and Jack Houghton, who struck some lusty blows in a well played 35, gave the Havering score some respectibility as they finished on 167 all out using up all their overs. Kevin fell to the last ball of the innings for 63, giving him his maiden 50 for the club. Foot and Robinson picked up 3 each for Canvey.
In reply Canvey Island reached their target in the 43rd over for the loss of 6 wickets, to condem Havering to a 4 wicket defeat and promotion hopes gone for another year. As it turned out St John's Billericay won also so the result was academic.
Wicket takers for Havering were Neil Keylock (7-0-22-3), Steve Summerville (12-0-39-2) and William Waine (8-1-28-1). Jack Houghton also bowled well but with no luck at the top of the innings.
Havering finished joint 3rd with Canvey Island.
Havering 4 points, Canvey Island II 22 points.
Havering Atte Bower 2nd XI promotion aspirations took a knock after a shock 3 wicket defeat at home to Roxwell Blues. Chasing maximum points, skipper Lee Rhodes won the toss and elected to bat first on what proved to be a good batting track as over 570 runs were scored in the afternoon.
Openers Tim Bland and Neil Keylock got off to a slow start due to some tight bowling but put on 54 for the first wicket before Tim fell for 20. When Neil departed for 53 Havering were in a bit of trouble at 118-5 and were looking short of runs to defend. Andy Mortimer and Michael Richardson, who rode his luck but produced some big shots, got Havering back in the game with a stand of 115 before Michael departed for 75 going for one big shot too many. A stand of 38 between Reece Beechey and Andy Mortimer took Havering past 250 and up to 285-8 in 45 overs, which was more than skipper Lee Rhodes could have hoped for. Andy finished 57 not out and Reece 18 not out.
Havering contributed to their own down fall as in-different bowling and dropped catches led to Roxwell chasing down their target for the loss of 7 wickets in the 44th over. Run getters for Roxwell were Brown (62 not out), Bishop (53) and Smyth (48. Pick of the Havering bowling was William Waine (6-0-31-3), dam Winder who didnt get much luck (8-1-42-2) and Steve Summerville (11-1-60-2).
Havering are now 15 points behind 2nd placed St John's Billericay and need a miracle if they are to be promoted in their last game of the season.
Havering 8 points, Roxwell Blues 25 points.
Havering travelled to Ecko Monarchs requiring a win to maintian the promotion aspirations and duly obliged with an 8 wicket triumph.
On a hot and humid day and with a big outfield to protect the hosts won the toss and elected to bat on what turned out to be a flat track. Havering made an early breakthrough removing the opposition skipper with Peter Edge taking a stunning catch in the slips off Jack Houghton. A stand of 99 between Fessey and Bunce (38) then frustrated Havering before 13 year old Reece Beechey came into the attack to remove Bunce. Reece took another wicket early in his spell and Neil Keylock, who replaced the injured Kevin Stanbridge, took 3 wickets as the hosts faltered but Fessey held strong through out and finished on 135 not out and was ably assisted by Bolton who was bowled of the last ball of the innings for 27. Ecko finished on a respectable 255-7. Pick of the bowling was Neil Keylock (9.4-1-48-3) and Reece Beechey (7-1-34-2). Steve Summerville and Jack Houghton chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Peter Edge and fellow opener Tim Bland got Haverings reply off to a solid start with an opening stand of 135 before Bland fell caught and bowled on 65. With Havering just behind the required run rate, Peter Thain was promoted to 3 and the move paid off with 14 coming of the first over Pete faced, he made a quick fire 26 before falling caught behind first ball after the 2nd drinks break.Skipper Lee Rhodes then joined Peter Edge and the two put on an unbroken stand of 86 to see Havering home by 8 wickets in the 41st over. Edge finished 135 not out and Rhodes 23 not out.
Havering 24 points, Ecko Monarchs III 6 points.
Havering Atte Bower's 2nd XI kept themselves in the hunt for promotion with a crushing 184 run win over Rankins 2nd XI at Broxhill Road.
The visitors won the toss and asked Havering to bat first on a green wicket and their decision paid off early when Peter Edge (5) gloved behind to one that lifted with the score on 11. Tim Bland was then joined by skipper Lee Rhodes who survived an early LBW shout and the two put on 152 in 27 overs to set the platform for a high score. Rhodes departed for 59 shortly after the 2nd drinks break with the score on 163 in the 31st over. A further 23 runs were scored before Tim fell for 93 and Havering were 186-3 in the 36th over. Colin Burton (34) and Jack Hurley (49) pushed the score on with a stand of 78 in 8 overs before they fell in successive balls and Peter Thain came in, clubbed 10 and was stumped in the last over to set Rankins 275 to win.
Opening bowlers Adam Winder and Tom Moffat bowled tightly from the start and Tom made early inroads to leave Rankins 44-2 off 12 overs. Adam came off after his 6 over spell to be replaced by George Benedetti who quickly found his line and length and he removed dangerman D.Greenfield (44) in his 3rd over, another wicket followed for George who finished with figures of 8-4-15-2 and it was then Kevin Stanbridge stole the show by returning figures of 7-4-3-4. Adam Winder retured to take the last wicket as Rankins were all out for 90 in the 38th over. Only D.Greenfield managed to trouble the scorers. Moffat finished with figures of 12-1-47-3 and Winder 6.3-1-13-1.
Havering 26 points, Rankins 3 points.
Saturdays game saw 2nd placed Havering 2nd XI take on league leaders Great Baddow.
Stand-in captain Jack Hurley decided to bowl first with a much under strength side. However Hurley's boys were not at all phased by the big game and performed exceptionally well in the field keeping Great Baddow to just 197-8 on what seemed to be a good track. Steve Summerville was pick of the bowlers with 4-46 with good support from Tom Moffat 2-57 and Reece Beechey 1-23
In reply, Haverings innings started in drizzle and lost early wickets through indifferent shots, however some stubborn batting from Mark Joyce saw him make 33 and frustrate the Baddow bowlers. After 32 overs the game was called off due to rain and so Havering and Baddow shared the points in this top of the league game. Well played to the Havering XI who did their club proud.
Havering 9 points, Great Baddow 10 points.
Havering 2nd XI entertained St Johns Billericay requiring a win to maitain the upper hand over their promotion rivals but fell to a 5 wicket defeat after losing a vital toss and being asked to bat first on a sticky wicket.
Hoping for a solid start to exert pressure on their visitors a mixture of fine opening spells from Alok (12-5-19-3) and Cox (6-1-21-2) on an bowling pitch added to poor shot selections ripped through Havering to leave them 28-5 off 12 overs and in all sorts of trouble. Some brief resistance from Kevin Stanbridge and Tim Hills moved the score to 50 before Kevin fell for 8 and it was then left to the lower order to try and post a total. With some big hitting from Tim Hills and support from Adam Winder (16) and Ryan Hurley (17) they managed to move the score onto 133 to give Havering a slim chance. Tim scored 57 before he was bowled trying to get more runs on the board.
Following tea, Havering took to the field knowing that defending 133 was never going to be easy and that, it was essential to take early wickets to stand any chance of victory. Early wickets came from opening bowlers Dave Joffe (2) and Tom Moffat (1) as Billericay stuttered to 32-3 off 15 overs. A couple of difficult chances were put down and the game was taken away from Havering in a stand of 67 between Griffiths (39) and A.Brown (17) before the 4th wicket fell on 99 to Kevin Stanbridge. A quick fire 23 from W.Brown all but secured the game before Kevin picked up another wicket and J.Atkinson hit the winning 4 runs on the last ball of the 35th over. Kevin Stanbridge finished with figures of 2-14 off 4 overs.
It was a good effort in the field from Havering who were disappointed in their batting performance and were on the back foot after a poor start.
Havering 2 points, Billericay St John 23 points.
Havering's 2nd X1 were looking to bounce back from the previous weeks disappointment as they travelled to South Woodham Ferrers to continue their push for promotion and they duly obliged as they came away with a 6 wicket win.
After winning the toss, skipper Lee Rhodes invited the hosts to bat on a low, slow surface and they were dismissed for 163 in 44 overs with W.Patient top scoring with 45. K.Dave (27) and M.Stuart (21) supported Patient but Havering were happy with their efforts in the field. Wickets were shared around the Havering bowlers with the pick being Steve Summerville who returned impressive figures of 8-0-33-3. There were also impressive spells from Neil Keylock (5-1-16-2), Tom Moffat who bowled 12 overs straight through (12-4-24-2) and 16 year old Tom Hobborough (5-0-26-2) who was making his 2nd team debut. Michael Richardson bowled well with no luck to return figures of (10-1-33-0)
In reply Havering got off to a slow start as batting conditions got tougher and they lost Tim Bland (14) in the 12th over who was suffering from illness, with the score on 28. The fall of the wicket brought Dave Keylock to the crease to join Dad, Neil, and the pair put on 84 in 17 overs and took the game away from Ferrers, before Dave (35) was caught at mid on with the score on 112. With a few dark clouds approaching from the distance Lee Rhodes joined Neil for a quick fire 21 in a partnership of 32 in 6 overs before he was caught on the long off boundry trying one big shot too many. Neil, who had batted patiently was stumped for a well played 58 and the score was then 154-4. It was left to Jack Hurley (4 not out) and Dan Keylock (8 not out) to knock off the 10 runs required to complete the win in the 38th over.
Havering 22 points, South Woodham Ferrers II 3 points.
Jack Hurley's 2nd XI was put into field by Herongate on what was to be a rain threatened day. Herongate's openers put on an opening stand of 60 before George Bennedetti took both openers. George finsihed up with figures of 12-4-28-3. Some bad fielding all round by Havering gave Herongate a chance to dominate. So captain Jack Hurley took it upon himself to take the wicket of the two dominating batsmen. Jack ended up with figures of 3-1-4-3 and Herongate finished up with 245-8.
In reply, Havering's openers got off to a good start before Neil Keylock fell for 43 leaving the score 84-1. But then Herongate took charge and knocked over Havering's middle order for few runs. Continuous drizzle throughout the Havering innings made all the difference as the pitch seemed to help the fielding side. Opener Tim Bland was the anchor of the innings before he fell for 86. This then brought Kevin Stanbridge (33) and George Bennedetti (23) to the crease. However Herongate bowled Havering out to leave the visitors short by 5 runs with 3 balls to spare.
Havering 7 points, Herongate II 25 points.
Havering 2nd XI captain Jack Hurley won the toss and elected to field first on pitch with cracks. Tom Moffat took a wicket in his first over and Dave Joffe also dismissed Marconi's best 2 batsmen. Kevin Stanbridge and Steve Summerville came on to bowl and ripped through the middle and lower order. Steve took figures for 9.3-2-15-5 and Kevin 10-4-21-2. That left Havering a total of 118 to chase with a total of 53 overs.
Openers Tim Bland and Tim Richardson put on a very patient partnership of 98 for the first wicket, until Tim Bland fell for 60. Tim Richardson fell soon after for 28, however the game was all but won by the time Peter Edge and Jack Hurley knocked off the remaining runs.
Havering 20 points, Marconi 0 points.
Saturday's crunch game between 2nd placed Havering and 3rd placed Canvey Island was unfortunately abandoned due to rain during tea.
Captain Jack Hurley won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener Tim Bland fell cheaply, and so did 2 more wickets for only 30 more runs, but the other opener Tim Richardson hung on in for a handy 32 before he was run out. That brought Peter Edge and Michael Richardson to the crease who put on a solid partnership of 108, which gave Steve Summerville the freedom to show us his windmill and smash 31 not out from 14 balls. Peter Edge finished on 74 and Michael Richardson 57. This left the 2nd XI 280-8 after 45 over's.
However the rain came down during tea and did not let up, leaving both captains little choice but to abandon the game and share the points. Havering 2nd XI remain 2nd in the league and face 2nd from bottom-Marconi this Saturday.
Havering 10 points, Canvey Island 9 points.
Havering 2nd XI were away to Roxwell Blues.
Havering lost the toss and we were unsuprisingly put into bat on what was an extremely green pitch. Havering lost a few early wickets and found it hard against the open bowlers, as they were only 22-3 after 11 overs. Jack Hurley and Fraser Jeffries put on a stand of 48 to see off the opening bowlers. Fraser went on to play an extremely controlled and patient knock of 47. Big hitting from the lower order saw Havering put on 96 in the last 15 overs, leaving the Havering bowlers to defend a very competitive total of 175-8.
Haverings opening bowlers couldn't get the break through needed and so George Bennedetti was brought on with last weeks hero Steve Summerville. But it was George who stole the show, taking 6 wickets, all of which were bowled. He ended up with figures of 12-5-22-6. Steve and Peter Thain finished up with 2 wickets each. This win brought 2nd placed Havering even closer to leaders Great Baddow who lost.
Havering 23 points, Roxwell Blues 5 points.
The 2nd XI made it five wins out of seven with a comfortable success over Ekco Monarchs & Trojans III.
Captain Lee Rhodes decided to bat first on a greenish wicket after winning the toss, but saw Neil Keylock and Eddie Wallace fall with only a single run on the board after three overs. Andy Lazenby joined Tim Bland (44) in a dogged 103-run stand and went on to make a deserved 58 before falling with the score on 133 after 23 overs. Lee Rhodes (37), Peter Thain (32) and Tim Richardson kept the scoreboard ticking over and Jack Hurley found the gaps to make an unbeaten 51 as the home side set Monarchs a target of 282.
William Waine had early success with the ball, but Monarchs kept their scoring rate up until Steve Summerville made a vital breakthrough. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Steve Summerville bowled his 12 overs through and finished with superb figures of seven for 44, with Andy Lazenby pouching two stunning catches at gully. Andy Lazenby and Peter Thain took the other wickets to fall as Havering wrapped up an 80-run win to remain in second place.
Havering 26 points, Opposition 7 points.
The 2nd XI returned to winning ways with a hard fought 41 run victory away to Rankins 2nd XI. With half the team stuck in traffic, Tim Richardson won the toss for Havering and decided to bat. Havering were soon in trouble at 44-2 losing opener Tim Richardson (5) and number 3 Lee Rhodes (18) inside the first 13 overs. When Lee Rhodes departed, Peter Thain came to the crease to join opener Tim Bland and the two batsmen put on 144 in 23 overs before Tim Bland departed for a patient 85 which included 13x4's and 1x6. Peter Thain followed shortly after for 71 (8x4's and 1x6's) to leave Havering 194-4 in the 38th over and hoping to reach the 230 mark, but the lower order rallied with some lusty blows to push the score upto 253-9 off of the full allocation of 45 overs, with the damage done by Jack Hurley (23), Adam Winder (19) and Tim Hills (10). Wickets were shared between Jones (12-1-56-5) and Bradfield (11-1-56-4) for Rankins.
In reply Havering lost opening bowler Jack Houghton to a groin strain in the 3rd over and Rankins made a steady start to chasing down their required 254, scoring 32 off of 5 overs before Steve Summerville had Greenfiel (15) caught at mid wicket by Lee Rhodes. A stand of 34 between Warner and Tindell frustrated Havering until Neil Keylock, in his first over, had Warner caught and bowled for 22 with the score on 76-2. That soon become 76-3 as Neil Keylock picked up his second wicket in his second over. Rankins continued to put stands together but Havering took wickets at key times whilst Peter Thain, Adam Winder and Lee Rhodes held onto some good catches in the outfield and there was some good work behind the stumps by Tim Richardson as Rankins eventually fell 41 runs short in the 44th over. Top scorer for Rankins was Tindell with 69. Neil Keylock and Steve Summerville finished with 4 wickets each and Adam Winder finished with 2.

Havering 2nd XI travelled away to St.John's Billericay. Captain Jack Hurley won the toss and elected to field first on what was a muggy feel to the day and the pitch looked as though it would give something to the bowlers. Jack Houghton and Michael Roe opened the bowling and got an early break through each. After a bit of big hitting by St.John's #3, Neil Keylock came on to bowl and picked up this prize wicket. Jack came back at the end of the innings with a superb spell, ending up with figures of 11-0-59-4. Michael Roe had figures of 9-1-66-3. St John's finished on 255-9.

Havering 5 points, St John's Billericay 26 points.
Havering Atte Bower 2nd XI continued their fine start to the season with a 6 wicket win over South Woodham Ferrers 2nd X1 at a very windy Broxhill Road. Home skipper Lee Rhodes lost the toss for the 3rd consecutive week and was surprised to be put into field in difficult batting conditions which soon became apparent as Woodham slipped to 12-2 off 9 overs after a tight opening spell from Steve Summerville and Adam Winder. It was tough going throughout as wickets fell at regular intervals and it looked as though Havering would be gaining some overs as South Woodham were teetering, but they stayed strong to frustrate Havering and were finally dismissed for a respectable 163 on the last ball of their 45 overs. Stars with the bat for Woodham were Patient (37), Curtis (26) and Burford (25). Wicket takers for Havering were Steve Summerville (12-5-40-4), Kevin Stanbridge (11-0-40-4) and Jack Hurley (6-0-16-2). Two more wickets fell and Havering found themselves 198-5 with 11 overs remaining. The fireworks then began as Colin Burton and Michael Richardson took the attack to Herongate and put on 119 in 11 overs with Colin scoring his maiden ton finishing 106 not out, a knock that contained 2x6's and 15x4's and Michael supporting him with an unbeaten 36. Pick of the Herongate bowlers was Linzell who finished with respectable figures of 7-0-36-1.
In Reply Herongate, who were bowled out for 70 the week before, never looked like chasing down Havering's total but they dug deep to frustrate the Havering bowlers for 44.1 overs before eventually being bowled out in the 45th over for 162 of which 44 were extras. Pick of the Havering bowlers was kevin Stanbridge who bagged 5-72 off 12 overs. He was well supported by Jack Houghton 6-0-9-1, Adam Winder 7-1-14-1 and there was a wicket a piece for Steve Summerville, Michael Richardson and Lee Rhodes.
Havering 26 points, Herongate II 3 points.
Havering 2nd XI entertained Marconi at Broxhill Road and got their league campaign off to a winning start with a convincing 8 wicket victory.
Newly appointed skipper Lee Rhodes lost the toss and Marconi had no hesitation in putting their hosts in the field but they were soon in trouble at 26-3 after fine opening spells from Jack Houghton and George Benedetti. A stand of 54 between Leroy and Chidley frustrated Havering before 2 quick wickets from Jack Hurley and Steve Summerville pegged Marconi back to 83-5. A further stand of 74 between Leroy and Matt gave the score some respectability before further wickets fell as Marconi posted 170-8 in 45 overs.
