Saturday 1st XI Match Reports & Scorecards

Sat 1st XI vs Bentley 12th September

Havering travelled to local rivals Bentley in this end of season mixed team friendly. However, Bentley had 5 first teamers in their side and were far too strong for the combined 2nd, 3rd & 4th XI Havering side.

Batting first, Bentley got off to a slow start as young Tom Mitchell (4 overs 1-14) and William Waine (6 overs 0-9) put in a tight spell of bowling. Ryan Hurley (6 overs 0-16) kept up the pressure and with half the overs gone, Bentley were only 65-1. However, when Urch (45) was trapped LBW by Tim Richardson, this brought in N.Smith who struck 2x6's & 10x4's in his 34 ball innings. When he was stumped by Danny Keylock off the looping spin of Peter Thain, worse was to come as Crispin struck 46 in 27 balls including 8x4's. Mark Chinnery (6 overs 0-43) and Danny Beechey (6 overs 1-48) came in for some stick. Bentley finished on 257-5 in their 40 overs hitting 90 in their last 10 overs.

In reply, Danny Beechey played some sweet shots as he got Havering off to a good start. But wickets fell at the other end and when Danny fell for 46, the score was 82-5. Mark Chinnery (32) batted well to bring respectability to the innings, and Ryan Hurley (19) gave him valuable support, but when they fell, Havering collapsed to 157 all out in 33.2 overs, losing by exactly 100 runs.

A good effort by Havering against a far superior side.

Sat 1st XI vs Brentwood VI 5th September

A mixed Havering XI played a 6th XI Brentwood side of adults and colts in this quickly arranged friendly match at Broxhill Road.

Havering skipper John French won the toss and elected to bat. Opening up with Peter Edge and Tim Richardson (5), Tim fell cheaply, caught behind with the score on 23. John French and Peter Edge (82) put on 89 for the second wicket with Peter striking 17x4's before being caught & bowled by Patil. John French (46) was totally bamboozled by the spin of young Mathias to be bowled with the score on 168. Two more quick wickets fell but Michael Richardson (66 n/o) joined up with David Keylock (85 n/o) and put on 126 with a hard hitting display to enable Havering to reach 300-5 off their allotted 40 overs. Michael hit 6x6's and 3x4's in his 36 ball innings. David hit 12x4's and 2x6's in his 65 ball innings.

In reply, Brentwood kept up with the required run-rate early on with A.Patil (83) anchoring the innings. Havering opened up with 15 year old Tom Mitchell and 17 year old Jack Houghton. Jack struggled with his direction, but Tom bowled line and length for his 4 overs taking 1-31. Mark Chinnery bowled without luck & came in for some stick from Karkaletsou (31), but took an excellent caught and bowled to dismiss him when he looked set to take the game away from Havering. 17 year old William Waine bowled with great control to stem the flow of runs, taking 1-20 in 6 overs. Tim Richardson bowled Mathias (28) with his flighted spin. With the score 200-4 in 30 overs Mike Richardson came on to keep the runs down with pace, leaving the other end open with spin. This allowed Tim Hills to pick up 3 cheap wickets. Tom Mitchell returned to pick up another 2 wickets, both bowled and William Waine took the last wicket, caught by Tim Hills at Square Leg. Wicket-keeper Danny Keylock had an excellent game behind the stumps, picking up three top class stumpings.

An enjoyable game was had by all with everyone getting the opportunity of having a full game.

Sat 1st XI vs Rankins 29nd August

The last league game of the season brought Rankins to Broxhill Road. Havering were soundly beaten to allow Rankins promotion as Champions to Division 2.

Rankins skipper Scott Simmons won the toss and elected to bat. Lee Pottle opened the bowling and had a very strong caught behind decision go against him when King apparently gloved behind first ball. That set the scene as Rankins tried to hit the leather off the ball, losing wickets regularly whilst hitting 4's and 6's at ease. Danny Beechey bowled well picking up 2 caught behinds by Mark Joyce. George Benedetti took 3 with fine catches from Eddie Wallace, Peter Thain and Danny Beechey. Adam Winder, playing in his first First XI game bowled well with 6 overs, 2-20. With only 36 overs gone, Rankins were 184-9. Simmons gave Havering two chances but the catches went down and he & Lees took the attack to to Havering and put on 64 before Simmons was brilliantly caught by Pottle on the boundary after he had struck 5x4's and 5x6's in his excellent 61 to leave Havering with a daunting and very disappointing 249 for victory.

In reply Havering got off to the worst possible start as Beechey skied one to mid-wicket and French was brilliantly caught & bowled by Simmons to one struck out of the meat of the bat. Kevin Thain & Dave Keylock put on a small stand before Thain was caught by skipper Simmons. Dave Keylock (31), Eddie Wallace (26), Peter Thain (20) and Mark Joyce (25) all started but got themselves out. Havering were all out for 157 allowing Rankins to gain promotion as Champions over Rettendon.

Havering finished 5th in the League, which was a disapponting end to the season which showed such promise.

Havering 6 points, Rankins 25 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rettendon 22nd August

Havering captain Kevin Thain lost the toss and was asked to field. The side was a shadow of the normal first eleven side with only 5 regulars in the team. Lee Pottle and George Benedetti bowled a tight line keeping the runs down until George trapped Nelson LBW with only 38 on the board. Luke Dyerson picked up two more wickets as Rettendon struggled to 100-3 off 30 overs. However T.Everitt and S.Bryant then proceeded to knotch up an unbeaten 166 stand in the last 15 overs to leave Havering with an uphill struggle chasing 266-3.

In reply, Danny Beechey, Kevin Thain, Eddie Wallace and Neil Staff were all out before the score reached 50. Only Neil Staff (25), Tim Hills (22) and Peter Thain (18) made any contribution as Havering capitulated to a miserable 128 all out.

This killed any chance of promotion for this year.

Havering 1 points, Rettendon 26 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Hatfield Peverel II 15th August

Havering captain Kevin Thain won the toss and elected to bat. Havering lost both Andy Lazenby and Rehnan Iqbal in quick succession, before Kevin Thain entered the crease. Kevin and Danny Beechey played with fluency as boundaries were hit regularly. Both Danny & Kevin secured their half-centuries, only for Kevin to be caught out in the deep for 55 soon after, ending the 122 partnership. Joe Moffat 25, and Mebs Raja 24, offered some aggressive hitting as Danny secured his century before being bowled for 133. This included 19 fours and 5 sixes. Havering finished on 278 from the allotted 45 over’s.

Hatfield Peverel made a good start with F.Clark scoring 40. Tom Moffat 2-41 and Luke Dyerson 4-31 were the pick of the Havering attack, as the visitors were always on an uphill task with such a challenging target set. An improvement in the fielding from the previous week saw two excellent run out’s. Havering turned to Rehnan’s spin to lure the batsman out and he claimed two quick wickets, ending the visitors hopes as they were bowled out for 162.

Havering 26 points, Hatfield Peverel II 4 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Canvey Island 8th August

Due to a mix-up in transportation to Canvey Island, vice captain Kevin Thain had to collect a player. The reigns were therefore passed go stand-in captain David Joffe, who lost the toss and was asked to field first. Canvey Island made a solid start with J Wall 37, and R Clarke 98, combining well to set the pace. Lee Pottle made the break through claiming the wicket of J Wall, although some untidy fielding and three drop catches enabled Clarke to push on. Joe Moffat eventually claimed the wicket of Clarke two shy of his century, with the hosts finishing on 229 from the allotted over’s.

In reply both openers fell cheaply. Debutant Rehnan Iqbal (27) was the only top order batsman to dig in as Snowdon 3-12, and Skidmore 4-32 took wickets at regular intervals. Having injured his back in the field, Kevin Thain (40n/o) combined well with Mebs Raja (38) with both playing their strokes with fluency, as the score began to increase. However, after Mebs departed the win was looking increasingly difficult. The remaining batsmen could not support Kevin Thain as Havering were bowled out requiring just 14 runs to win with 5 balls remaining.

Havering 5 points, Canvey Island 25 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Boreham 1st August

Havering played Boreham and were washed out at 5pm after the first innings to dent the promotion drive, having taken 96 points out of a possible 104 in July.

It was a shame, as Havering, having lost the toss, had amassed 257-3 in their 45 overs. Opening up with Tim Bland and Danny Beechey, Danny was looking good until he mis-timed a pull to mid-on for 15. John French joined Tim and they put on 41 with both timing the ball well. Tim mis-timed a drive & was caught at extra cover for 38. Joe Moffat then joined his skipper and they took the attack to Boreham with both playing some cracking drives and pulls. They put on 133 before Joe was caught for 40. Mebs Raja hit 15 late runs as John remained unbeaten on 130. His 123 ball innings included 14x4's and 3x6's with Boreham skipper Hadcraft, especially, comming in for some stick.

After tea, only 2.3 overs were possible as the English weather intervened and the game was abandoned.

Havering 10 points, Boreham 6 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Navestock 25th July

Havering travelled the short distance to neighbours Navestock with high hopes of avenging the defeat at Broxhill Road in May.

However, nobody could imagine what occurred at The Green in Navestock Saturday afternoon.

Winning the toss, Havering skipper elected to field on a damp wicket which had experienced the heavy storms of Friday. Opening with swing pair Craig Wilkins and Ben Leworthy, it was Ben who struck first, getting Mat Bull (2) caught at backward square leg attempting a pull shot. That was the last wicket to fall to Ben, as Craig Wilkins ripped through the team with fantastic figures of 6.3 overs, 4 maidens, 7 wickets for 2 runs. This included 3 catches and 4 bowled inside 23 balls for no runs. (ie 4.3 overs 7 wkts - 0 runs) INCLUDING a HAT-TRICK to finish off the innings.

Jason Roberts was caught behind, then Trigg run himself out, Moule was bowled, Hawtree dollied one up to short cover, and Horsnell was bowled. Craig's 7th over started by bowling Savill and Pease with a huge in-swingers, followed by skipper Evans caught behind. Craig;s first ever hat-trick and well deserved.

Navestock were all out (they only had 10 men) for a paltry 14 inside 13 overs.

Havering knocked the runs off in 9 balls. Mebs Raja hit 3 x 4's in the first over and Andy Lazenby finished it off with 4 in the 2nd over. What else can be said!! A huge embarrassment for lowly Navestock and nobody got na game of cricket, however Havering suitably avenged their defeat in May.

Havering 26 points, Navestock 0 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rayne 18th July

Havering entertained bottom club Rayne and ensured there was no complacency with an emphatic 8 wicket win.

Havering skipper John French won an important toss on a wicket which had absorbed a lot of rain over the past 36 hours. Batting first, the Rayne batsmen had no answer to Lee Pottle who bowled with pace and hostility, and Ben Leworthy who swung the ball well. They both bowled their 12 overs straight through and when they finished their spells Rayne were 69-6 with only Collins (21) showing any real fight. Good catches and some average shots assisted Havering. Lee finished with excellent figures of 12/3/39/4 and Ben 12/2/37/2. Luke Dyerson, George Benedetti and Joe Moffat finished the job despite some lusty blows from No11 Hardy. The last wicket put on 27, which was by far the highest of the innings, possibly due to some dropped catches, which enabled Rayne to score more than expected. They were all out for 120 inside 38 overs.

Haverings innings was dominated by a superb innings by Andy Lazenby. After the early loss of Danny Beechey, John French kept Andy company for over an hour as he took the attack to the Rayne bowlers. 13x4's and 1x6 saw Andy unbeated on 81 at the end, as havering won by a comfortable 8 wkts inside 30 overs.

Havering 24 points, Rayne 1 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Pegasus & Corringham II 11th July

Kevin Thain won the toss and elected to bat first opening with Danny Beechey and Andy Lazenby. With the game eight overs old Andy (21) was caught at point with the score on 38. He was followed half an hour later by Dave Keylock (13) with the score on 71. Danny Beechey was bowled with the score on 96 after 28 overs top scoring with 56; Peter Edge the No 4 batsman played a containing game defending an accurate spell of bowling by Pegasus before being bowled for 31 while Mebs Raja scored a hard hit 22 before being caught behind; Latif survived three balls - bowled for 0; Kevin Thain was not out 13 while Peter Thain was smartly stumped for 20 leaving Luke Dyerson on 14 not out after 45 overs for a final score of 198 for 7.

Pegasus in reply lost wickets rapidly to some excellent swing bowling from Craig Wilkins who took 5 for 7 in 10 overs; Lee Pottle who opened the attack with Craig bowled 4 overs for 29 runs before injuring his ankle and retiring from the attack and being replaced by Danny Beechey who bowled 5 overs taking two wickets for 23 runs. Luke Dyerson bowled a steady spell of 7.1 overs taking 1 wkt for 6 runs; Peter Thain bowled 3 overs taking 1 wkt for 19 runs. Pegasus were bowled out for 105 in 33.1 overs leaving Havering victors by 93 runs.

Havering 23 points, Pegasus & Corringham 3 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rayleigh Fairview - 4th July

Havering entertained Rayleigh Fairview in the first game of the return fixtures. Winning the toss, R/F elected to bat first. Craig Wilkins & Danny Beechey opened the bowling and Craig bowled superbly and took a wicket in the third over. A 90 run second wicket stand saw Fairview slowly build an innings, but it took them 23 overs. Lee Pottle (0-44) and Craig Wilkins (2-32) kept the runs down with some fine accurate bowling. Luke Dyerson and Joe Moffat bowled slow spin and took wickets at crucial times, as 4 batsmen got past 30 but could not continue. Luke bowled 12 overs straight through, 2-46 and Joe 10 overs 3-54. Fairview finished on 200-7 in their 45 overs.

Havering were confident of victory on a good wicket but lost Andy Lazenby (5) and Danny Beechey (14) with only 46 on the board. Kevin Thain hung around as Dave Keylock (14) was next out with the score on 77. Joe Moffat & Kevin Thain put on 61 for the 4th wicket before Kevin (40) was caught. Mebs Raja holed out on the boundary for 11 but when Scott Jackson joined Joe Moffat, they both started hitting out and Havering won by 5 wkts with 5 overs to spare.

Havering 22 points, Rayleigh Fairview 6 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rankins - 27 June

Havering travelled to Rochford for this mid-table clash against Rankins and came off second best. Winning the toss, Havering skipper John French had no hesitation in batting first on a hot afternoon with a cloudless sky. However, the script did not go as planned. Kevin Thain was first out, caught behind for 9. Joe Moffat & Danny Beechey put on 63 before Danny was brilliantly caught & bowled by Cousen for a fine 56. He was cut off in his prime as he was striking the ball very well having hit 11x4's with his leg side shots particularly sweet. After he fell, Andy Lazenby was bowled for 15, Joe Moffet fell for 46 and after trying to push the run rate and Mebs Raja was bowled after hitting 2 huge sixes, for 22. Havering were never up to 5 an over and finished on a disappointing 206-7 in their 45 overs, at least 25 runs short of a competitive total.

When Rankins batted, it was like they were trying to get it all over in 25 overs as openers King & Tindall scored well against opening bowlers Criag Wilkins (4/0/22/0) and Danny Beecehey (4/0/32/0). Only when the pace was taken off the ball did Havering start to compete. Luke Dyerson bowled King (25) first ball after he survived a strong caught behind appeal the over before. Joe Moffat went one better and took 2 wickets in his first over of off-spin to reduce Rankins from 92-1 to 98-3 in 17 overs. Joe Moffat & Luke Dyerson bowled through and kept Havering in the hunt. Luke finished with 2-39 off 12 and Joe 4-57 off 12. However, Nanda and Cousen dug in and slowly crept Rankins to victory with an unbeaten 54 run stand to win by 4 wickets.

A close game which was not reflected by the difference in points.

Havering 6 points, Rankins 22 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rettendon - 20 June

Havering were outclassed by a very strong Rettendon Side who are rightly top of the League.

Losing the toss, Havering were asked to field and it soon became very apparent why Rettendon are top of the league. Visiting skipper Jon Rowarth opened and played shots all round the ground from the off. His opening shot was a six, pulled over the clubhouse. His partner, Mansell, was first to fall being superbly bowled by Danny Beechey for 29. But the runs kept flowing and Havering were powerless to stem the flow. It didn't help when Rowarth was dropped a dolly at midwicket in the 20th over (140) and at square leg in the 24th (162) as Rowarth and M.K.Everett piled on the runs. When all-rounder Joe Moffat was injured resulting in him having to leave the field, wicket-keeper Mebs Raja (1-35 off 5) was asked to bowl his occasional off-breaks, and bowled Rowarth (85) in his second over. (185-2 in 28 overs). The runs did not dry up as M.K.Everett (61) took over the on-slaught. Youngsters P.Everett, T.Everett & D.Rowarth all scored well. Luke Dyerson was pick of the bowlers and bowled 12 overs and picked up two wickets for 62 runs with fine outfield catches by Craig Wilkins & John French, but Rettendon finished with 318-6 off 45 overs. Danny Beechey took 2-50 off 5 overs, and Craig Wilkins 1-68 off 11.

In reply, Havering succumbed to the pace of P.Everett and seam of T.Everett as they attempted to chase down this huge target. Only Danny Beechey (45), opening, managed to take the attack to Rettendon as Havering were all out for 140 with No11 Luke Dyerson being second highest scorer with 19.

Havering 3 points, Rettendon 26 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Hatfield Peverel II - 13th June

Knowing that Hatfield Peverel had thrashed League Leaders Rettendon last week, Havering gambled by asking the home side to bat first and were very quickly in amongst the wickets as Dave Joffe (who took advantage of some indifferent shots and very tight bowling by Danny Beechey at the other end) dismissed Nos 1,3 & 4 by the 10th over with only 33 on the board. When George Benedetti stretched full length to catch the other opener Hills (42) at short cover and John French held on to a skier to dismiss Wright (15), Hatfield were 104-8 in the 25th over. Nos 9 (Bentley) & 10 (Crane) dug in to use the overs up, but superb ground fielding kept the pressure on. Crane (11) was caught by Joe Moffat off Scott Jackson and No. 11 was LBW to George Benedetti as Hatfield finished on a modest 153 in 42 overs.

With 48 overs to get the score, Havering were confident of victory, but Kevin Thain and Mebs Raja fell cheaply. Danny Beechey (27) and David Keylock (29) kept the score ticking over, but in-form Joe Moffat cracked an unbeaten 75 to win the game in the 34th over with huge 6. He struck 8x4's & 2x6's in his 71 ball innings. Bentley (3-22) and Shaw (2-23) were the only wicket-takers for Hatfield.

Havering 22 points, Hatfield Peverel 3 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Canvey Island - 6th June

Havering entertained Canvey Island at Broxhill Road and thrashed out a hard played very tense TIE at 255 runs each.

Canvey skipper, Peter Ward won the toss and elected to bat. Havering opened with Craig Wilkins & Danny Beechey. It should have been one wicket down first ball, as Craig Wilkins bowled a rank full toss, Wall played a horrible slice shot, which was put down in the gully. From then on, Canvey scored regularly but lost both openers, one each to Craig Wilkins and Danny Beechey. Craig Wilkins bowled Clarke & at 83-3 skipper Ward was joined by Burrell, and they put on 102 in 18 overs, (the 37th) and were taking the game away from Havering when the pace of Scott Jackson had Burrell caught behind and Ward clean bowled for 88. Skidmore and Gunn rode their luck and Canvey finished their 45 overs on 255-7. Havering's fielding was top class and Craig Wilkins 2-40, Scott Jackson 2-45, Danny Beechey 1-23 & Joe Moffat 1-49 were the wicket takers.

Havering opened with Kevin Thain and Danny Beechey who put on 42, but the going was tough against tight bowling from Burrell. Kevin Thain (18) sacrificed his wicket to push the score along. Danny Beechey played some sweet shots hitting 37 before being bowled. Dave Keylock (23) and Mebs Raja (23) kept the tempo going until Joe Moffat and Scott Jackson (46) put on a hard-hitting 87 in 12 overs with Scott Jackson, especially, being brutal in his hitting. He struck 9x4's in his 29 ball innings before skying one too many. George Benedetti kept Joe Moffat company, as Havering closed in on the target. Needing 7 off the last over, four singles were followed by a dot and George Benedetti's wicket. Requiring 3 off the last ball, a wide brought it down to 2 and Craig Wilkins and Joe Moffat scrambled a single to TIE the match on 255 each. Joe Moffat finished on 67 which included 5x4's and 2x6's in his 70 ball innings.

Havering 16 points, Canvey Island 16 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Boreham - 30th May

Havering played at Boreham this week on a very difficult wicket which had very variable bounce. Losing the toss, Havering were asked to bat first on a very hot afternoon, which told them something about the wicket before the start. Havering got off to a poor start losing both openers with only 15 on the board, but skipper John French and Mebs Raja dug in despite the variable bounce created by Harrison & Startling. They both started to increase the tempo and by the 22nd over, were 79 when John got a leading edge to Yeoman to be his first victim for 23. Andy Lazenby, Eddie Wallace and Dave Joffe fell in quick succession whilst Mebs was hitting out in great form. He was next out with the score on 131-7 having struck a fine 65 which included 12x4's. Havering collapsed after he fell, to 146 all out in the 35th over. That meant that Boreham had 55 overs to chase down the modest score.

Danny Beechey struck twice inside the first 6 overs bowling Costa & skipper Hadcraft with fine away-swing bowling. Baumber and Starling buckled down and seemed to be coasting to victory as Craig Wilkins & Lee Pottle made little impact. When George Benedetti had Baumber LBW for 38 with the score on 80-3 in the 19th over, it was like a pack of cards as Dave Joffe ripped through the Boreham batsman with an excellent display of fast swing bowling. Only Starling had the stomach for the fight and managed to score 55 before being one of Dave's victims, as Boreham were all out for 131 inside 32 overs. Dave Joffe finished 6.4 overs, 5-14, with Danny Beechey 6 overs 2-26. Craig Wilkins, Luke Dyerson & George Benedetti picked up 1 wkt each.

Havering won by 15 runs

Havering 21 points, Boreham 5 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Navestock - 23rd May

Navestock batted first and rode their luck with M.Bull especially slicing and carving the Havering attack. George Benedetti and Danny Beechey bowled well but without any luck whatsoever. Scott was the first to go, caught by Dave Joffe of George Benedetti for 27 with the score on 70. Skipper gambled by putting on looping spinner Peter Thain and he bowled Bull for 41 second ball at 105-2 off 29overs. Navestock then accelerated and the Havering bowlers did not have an answer as Navestock finished on 233-5 off 45 overs.

In response, Havering lost wickets at regular intervals, with no less than 5 batsmen getting out after reaching 20. At 149-8 in the 34th over, Dave Joffe and Steve Summerville came together, and they put on 57 but couldn't accelerate enough as Havering finished 27 runs short of their target. A disappointing loss for the home side.

Havering 5 points, Navestock 24 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Rayne - 16th May

Havering travelled to Rayne on a wet and windy May afternoon. The wicket looked indifferent and when Havering skipper, John French lost the toss and was asked to bat, it was no surprise. Losing opener Danny Beechey in the 2nd over to the swing of Sainsbury, Kevin Thain and John French dug in on a difficult popping wicket with the swinging ball to contend with. Sainsbury, especially, bowled with intelligence, 12 overs straight through 1-20, which showed how difficult it was. Kevin & John slowly built a partnership of 108 in 29 overs until Kevin was bowled for a 75 which included 12x4's and 1x6 With 114 on the board, it was then a pack of cards as last weeks hero, Dave Keylock went caught behind first ball. Andy Lazenby & Scott Jackson also failed to cope with the difficult conditions. John French was finally bowled for 42 (2x4's and 2x6's) with the score on 127 and after that, only Dave Joffe hung around as Havering were all out for 155. Hockley used his height to get varied bounce and picked up 6 wickets.

Knowing how difficult the wicket was, the home team knew that they had a serious chance of victory if they bowled well.

When Rayne batted, only Whiteside and Wicks looked like they could get runs, and they came together after the loss of 2 wickets for 28 with Danny Beechey and George Benedetti both picking up a wicket apiece. Lee Pottle and Scott Jackson bowled with pace and aggression and after Wicks (bowled by Lee Pottle) and Whiteside (brilliantly caught in the gully by George Benedetti off Pottle) fell at 88-4, it was another pack of cards as Lee Pottle and Danny Beechey ripped through the side who had no stomache for the fight on an unpredictable wicket. Rayne were all out in the 35th over for 127 with extras totalling the highest score of 33. Lee Pottle 5-28 off 8 overs and Danny Beechey 3-15 off 7 overs were the pick of the bowlers.

Havering won by 28 runs

Havering 22 points, Rayne 5 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Pegasus & Corringham II - 9th May

Havering entertained Pegasus & Corringham II after they were promoted last year. Winning the toss, Havering skipper, John French asked Pegasus & Corringham to bat on a good looking wicket. Havering opened with Craig Wilkins and Danny Beechey. Pegs batters had no answer to the swinging ball as Craig swung it viciously in and Danny swung it away. John French caught Tegg early on with 7 on the board in the 4th quickly followed by Jenkins who was caught by Dave Keylock in the covers, both off Danny Beechey. Tom Moffat picked up two more wickets with his swing bowling. All this time Craig Wilkins was unplayable with the only scoring shots being edges. When Craig picked up 3 wickets late on in his 12 over spell, Pegasus were 55-7 in the 23rd over. Craig finished 12/6/26/3. Pearce (26) and Daines (33) then put on 53 until Pearce was brilliantly caught by Kevin Thain in the slips off Luke Dyerson with the score 108-8. Daines then struck out until Scott Jackson bowled him for 33 and the innings closed on 145 all out in 41 overs.

In reply, Havering lost two quick wickets to the swinging ball, but Kevin Thain and Dave Keylock put on 121 in 21 overs as Havering won by 8 wkts with 11 overs to spare. Dave Keylock was particularly brutal striking 14x4's in his undefeated 70. Kevin Thain struck 9 x 4's in his unbeaten 56.

Havering 22 points, Opposition 1 point.

Sat 1st XI vs Rayleigh Fairview - 2nd May

Havering travelled to Rayleigh Sports Ground and the script did not go to plan. Winning the toss, skipper John French elected to bat, but Havering found the going tough on a low, slow wicket. Hero of last week, Thain, was caught behind for 1 before Beechey and French steadied everything with a stand of 37 before Beechey tried to slog drive one too many and was bowled for 25. Lazenby joined French and they slowly kept the score going but at 86-2 off 30 overs, French tried to push the pace and was caught on the deep square leg boundary for 23. Lazenby presented an easy catch to cover point, Wallace and Wilkins were caught behind and Raja Bowled to leave the visitors struggling on 116-6. Only Ben Leworthy managed to hit through the low bounce to finish 21 not out as Havering finished on a disappointing 134-9 off their 45 overs.

In reply, Fairview lost skipper Worship, run out and Collins brilliantly caught at full stretch, one handed at slip by Thain for 1. Wilkins was swinging the ball so much that the batsmen found it almost impossible to play him, but opener, Casey, edged his way to 47 before being brilliantly caught by Lazenby, full stretch at cover point. Danny Beechey and Tom Moffat and Wilkins all both bowled well without luck, but it was Lee Pottle who picked up 3 good wickets in his 7 overs to give Havering a sniff of success. But Crompton (27) struck out and, together with Barnes (18n/o), took Fairview to victory in 36.4 overs.

Havering 2 points, Fairview 20 points.

Sat 1st XI vs Shenfield II - 25th April

Havering travelled a short distance to play Shenfield 2nds at Shenfield for a pre-season warm up friendly.

Batting first, Havering got off to a shaky start losing opener Danny Beechey and No 3 Andy Lazenby with only 9 on the board. But Kevin Thain (95) and David Keylock (33) put on 54 in 7 overs before Dave was caught behind. Mebs Raja joined Kevin Thain and he hit some lusty blows, including a huge 6 over extra cover, until he was bowled for 24. Eddie Wallace scored 18 and all this time, Kevin was heading towards a well deserved century until he was LBW to opening bowler Hedden. With only 11 overs remaining with the score on 179, Scott Jackson struck out and hit 43 in 35 balls. He was ably supported by Craig Wilkins to leave Havering finishing on 244-9 in their allotted 40 overs. R.Wickes was the best of the Shenfield bowling, spinning his way to good figures of 4-34 in 10 overs.

In reply, Shenfield went off like a train with Wickes and Joyner both hitting out from the start. Luke Dyerson came in for some stick and it was only when he was replaced, did Craig Wilkins and Danny Beechey strike. Danny Beechey bowled Joyce and Craig Wilkins took 3 quick wickets (including Wickes) to reduce Shenfield to 98-4. But skipper Pete Rider steadied the ship, and rebuilt the innings with Castell and they put on 54 in 11 overs before Steve Summerville bowled Castell (28) to open the door for Havering. When John French had Rider (49) caught by Danny Beechey (low diving catch at mid-off), the match was very even on 185-6. However M.Keane saw Shenfield home with 2 balls to spare finishing 42 not out. Pick of the Havering bowling was Craig Wilkins 4-39 off 8 overs.
